Fall weekend in New York

When a trip for a work conference took me to Philadelphia for a couple of days, I thought I would take the opportunity of being back out east, to make a quick weekend trip to New York before heading back home to Kansas City. I asked if my mom wanted to come out and meet me because I know she had never visited and I thought it would be a great chance to go see the city in its full fall-seasoned glory! We had no big plans other than to see a Broadway show, and to take our time just exploring what we could in a short amount of time. Friday evening I really wanted to get to the top of Rockefeller Center after reading it was one of the top places to watch sunset in New York, and in my 4 previous trips I have never been to any kind of observation deck to see the city from above and it had always been on my checklist of things to do! Unfortunately, there was a wait time of 2 hours at Rockefeller Center (of course- it was a long shot on such short notice!) so after some quick thinking we jumped on the subway to make our way over to Brooklyn and watch the sun set over the skyline. I am so happy this is what we actually ended up doing because I had never been to Brooklyn and the view was stunning. We stopped to enjoy the sights for awhile and as we were making our way back to the subway- again we made a quick change of plans to make the trek over the bridge and cross back to the city for dinner. Best last minute change of plans! The sun had set but there was a beautiful glow over the city and the lights from the cars on the bridge created the perfect ambiance which ended up setting the stage for my favorite photos from the trip! After many many miles of walking and making a lot of ground over those two and a half days, I can assure you we were pretty exhausted but filled with good memories of our time in the city together! You can come to this city many many times, and still discover more, and that is what I love about it! NEXT TIME TOP OF THE ROCK. It's still on my list!
