life lately

Hello little blog, haven't written much on you in awhile!

I thought I'd come give you all a little update on life, and let you know that I haven't gone anywhere! (I'll explain my absence a little bit below..)

Ahh... Summer! FINALLY! I feel like I talk about summer from October to May and how I can't wait for it to start, and then BAM its here once again! I feel like this summer has been so incredibly busy, but then again I think I must be comparing it to last summer: we had Jett in July, and time after that seemed to inch by as 99% of my days revolved around caring for this tiny sweet little newborn.

So far this summer, we have taken a few trips: Jett and I went to California for a week in May and we spent a long weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks - a little mini vacation that we always love to take every year a couple times each summer as its only about 2.5 hours from our house. We also have a few upcoming trips, one will take Brandon and I back to California.. (our first big trip without Jett - really looking forward to it, but of course will miss that little guy for a few days!)

Summer is slowly taken on a new meaning as Jett gets older. It has been so much fun taking him to the pool, to the splash pad, and just playing outside with him! I feel like I see life through the lens of a kid again as I watch Jett squeal with delight when we take him into the water, or put him in the swing at the park.

Summer has also brought about some huge changes as I was laid off from my job a few weeks back. The company I was working for had some major restructuring initiatives and ultimately decided to exit Kansas City. It couldn't have come at a better time, because in my heart I knew that corporate life wasn't for me. I had been feeling this way for quite awhile, but was far too scared to make any sort of leap (and guess I needed a PUSH instead) .....  Ever since, I have been putting my heart and soul into my creative businesses, working more hours than I ever did working for a big company, and trying to navigate this new world of entrepreneurism.

What exactly do I do, and what are my businesses you ask? Here is a quick overview of projects that I am working on:

1. Blogging.

I love my blog, it has been my passion project since I started it a little over a year ago. Blogging (and making money doing it) is fun, exciting, crazy and confusing all in one. There is no step by step manual on how to do it, and THAT has been hard for me - as I am someone who loves a good list - 1. DO THIS.. 2. DO THIS OTHER THING. 3. NOW DO THIS. Yeah that doesn't exist. A good chunk of my time lately has been the business\strategic side of blogging, which is why I haven't had time to ACTUALLY blog much lately. (Kind of ironic eh?) In fact, as I currently type up this post, I am reminded how much I love writing and is serving me as a reminder that I need to get back to it! My hope is that now that I have put in some foundational work to the business side of things, that going forward I can devote more of my time back to what I love most about blogging,,, and that the actual act of blogging!

2. Website creation and management.

When I started my first blog in 2013, I fell in love with the process of managing and designing my website. Over the years my skillset has grown and I felt comfortable enough to help others build their websites too. I currently manage a few website projects -one business and a couple of blogs.

3. Strategic marketing for a start-up travel company.

(strategic marketing = another interest that took off thanks to blogging!! Seriously who would have thought I would learn so many useful and applicable skills through what started as a blog to share my daily outfits!?)

4. Photography.

These jobs are few and far between as I just don't have the time, but still shoot from time to time!

So there you have it! Life as I now know it!

Seriously I missed this. I love typing in this little box. I'll be back soon, I promise!
